Blayne Sunstrum will join the Jefferson police department as a patrol officer. The city council approved his hiring at the July 28 meetings.
Sunstrum is an Ogden High School graduate and earned an associate degree in criminal justice. He has worked as a jailer in Boone County for 1-1/2 years and as a reserve officer in Boone County.
He will start training in the Hawkeye Community College law enforcement program Aug. 31, Jefferson police chief Dave Morlan said.
The council approved a starting annual wage of $38,552 for Sunstrum.
The city council also approved hiring Kent Curtis as a general service worker. Curtis will float between the streets, water and parks departments. His duties will include all aspects of street maintenance work along with duties in the operation and maintenances of the municipal water and wastewater treatment system, as well as providing assistance in maintaining the cemeteries and parks.
Curtis’ starting annual wage will be $32,926.
